| Of all the
ski areas I've visited in my lifetime, I never saw a snowfence
at a ski area until I visited Great Divide. At the summit of the
ski area you will see snow fences everywhere. The fences are there
so as to prevent the snow from blowing off the bare areas of the
mountain - Great Divide can get some pretty high winds at times.
Additionally, as Great Divide doesn't get a ton of snow - the snow
fences sort of act to "conserve" the snow by piling up huge amounts
of it on the ski runs. As you can see in this picture - it works. |
