Description
Old Faithful Geyser, Emerald Spring, the magnificent canyons and falls
of the Yellowstone River: these and other sites, familiar to the millions
of visitors who travel through Yellowstone National Park each year, have
been an inspiration to generations of artists. Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt,
Frederic Remington, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and dozens of other artists
have braved difficult conditions to capture the splendors of Yellowstone
in many media, from delicate watercolors and pen-and-ink sketches to
powerful oils and popular lithographs. They have portrayed the animals
that lived there, the humans who passed through, and above all the remarkable
natural features that have made Yellowstone a wonderland to so many artists
and observers.

Book Review
When I went to Yellowsone N.P. and was researching the Archives there the
librarian there said that they consider this book the most complete and
accurate account of the history of the park. I liked it because it was
well written and nicely illustrated, making it not just a good reference,
but enjoyable to read as well. This park is truly a unique place and the
first of a most wonderful concept. If you have any intrest in Yellowstone,
or plan to travel there, this book will provide some rich history you should
not miss.

Description
In this evocative exploration of Yellowstone’s creation myth, the
authors trace the evolution of the legend, its rise to incontrovertible
truth, and its revelation as a mysterious and troubling episode that
remains part folklore, part wish, and part history. This study demonstrates
the passions stirred by any challenge to cherished national memories,
just as it honors the ideals and dreams represented by our national myths.

Description
After the vast plateau called Yellowstone became a national park in 1872,
dozens of federally sponsored scientists entered the area to record details
of the region's natural history and ecology. As part of that project, photographers
made hundreds of images of the park's most significant features. Research
scientists Meagher and Houston have studied these photographs from the
1870s and 1880s and then rephotographed the same scenes, first in the 1970s,
then after the great fires of 1988, and then again in the mid-1990s. The
resulting sequences of photographs offer a detailed record of ecological
change in the park.
