When traveling
the Hi-Line, you'll see plenty of these signs. The "4 for 2" campaign
is an initiative, driven mainly by Hi-Line towns and businesses,
to upgrade Highway 2 to four lanes (from its current 2 lanes).
The campaign is based on the premise that an upgraded highway will
bring in more traffic to the Hi-Line towns, thereby boosting the
local economy. Due to the high costs involved (estimated at over
$1 billion), the state of Montana has recently backed away from
supporting the project - preferring to improve the road in various
places instead. |
