This is the
school in Hingham, Montana. The school had a deserted look about
it, although I suspect that was because it was summer (I think
the school is still open). Regardless, keeping the schools open
in these small towns on the Hi-Line and
other
small
towns
in the
Great Plains is one of the great challenges. When a town loses
it's school, all to frequently the town goes into a "death spiral",
as the New York Times put it - as few new families are ever likely
to move to the town. And as no new young people are in town, the
town will continue to lose population bit by bit. |
