This rather
uninspiring picture is just a photo of the old Milwaukee Road
Railroad right of way. Once upon a time, the Milwaukee Road cut
through the heart of Central and Eastern Montana, going through
Martinsdale in the process. However, beginning in the late 1970's,
the railroad pulled up stakes, leaving
numerous
communities without any rail services. As a consequence, numerous
businesses in this part of Montana
that required rail service (particularly grain elevators) went
out of business. While the rails and railroad ties have long since
been removed, a broken signal light and numerous poles still mark
the location of where the railbed use to be. |
