The little pack of Mountain Grouse we stumbled across while hiking the
Iceberg
Lake Trail consisted of 4 females and 1 male. The male was being
exceptionally aggressive for a little 15 pound bird - probably due to
being mating season and all. We heard this bird long before we saw it.
And once seen, it refused to get off the trail - and forced his harem
of hens to keep going right down the trail - walking right next to us
(like within inches or right across our feet). The male had puffed up
his feathers to maximum extent - no doubt to make himself seem bigger.
For a short moment when this bird stood right below me I had a peculiar
idea that it might actually attack me, but it just took a quick look
up at me and then moved on (see previous
photo).
