Fields of Hay
Along the Smith River itself, use of irrigation allows hay to be grown. But as the hill that rises above in the photo shows, the area along this part of the Smith River Region Backcountry Drive is quite arid. As the scenic drive heads to the south, though, it gains elevation and becomes wetter - allowing for vast fields of grass to grow.
