Forested Mountains of the Rocky Mountain Front
The Sun River Loop Scenic Byway passes through about ten miles of forest along the route. The forested section occurs where the scenic drives threads behind the western edge of the Rocky Mountain Front, as the weakened rain shadow and higher elevation allows for trees to grow.
This section of drive is quite forested with limited views. However, there are enough open vistas to keep the drive interesting. Additionally, many primitive camping spots can be found along this section of the drive, too.
