Approaching the Base of the Mountains in the Sun River Wildlife Management Area of Montana
The Sun River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is not heavily forested. The eastern part of the WMA is open grasslands that provide superb views of the Rocky Mountain Front. But as the visitor continues to drive down the road toward the mountains, the road gains elevation and soon the visitor will enter a mix of forest and open grasslands. The forest is anything but "thick." The trees tend to be relatively small and widely scattered - which is ideal for both wildlife viewing and for superb views.
