Near the Base of the Big Snowy Mountains
As the byway approaches the mountains and gains elevation, the forests become thicker. The byway itself closely follows the eastern base of the Big Snowy Mountains. It should be noted that the byway only passes through National Forest Lands for a short distance - most of the drive is through private property (thus, be careful where you camp!).
