Climbing Toward the Pass on the Scenic Byway
The Philipsburg Valley Scenic Loop crosses a low pass through the lower peaks of the John Long Mountains to the west of Philipsburg on Highway 348. It's on this section of the drive that I find the views of the best. The views of the John Long Mountains and distant, snow-covered peaks are excellent. And the rolling, open hills of the lower John Long Mountains are simply attractive to see.
